Illinois LinkedIn Banner Generator (2019 - Present): A tool to create professional LinkedIn banner images to elevate your LinkedIn profile.
As of May 2021, the Illinois LinkedIn Banner Generator has generated 63,583 professional banners (based on an Google Analytics event tracking data). You’ll find students, faculty, and alumni using these banners all over LinkedIn.
This tool was constructed with undergraduate student Ashley Grudzinski, as part of her senior thesis, and Karle Flanagan (who co-advised the thesis) and was presented at the University of Illinois Undergraduate Research Symposium.
GitHub Student Repository Creator (2018 - Present): A self-service microservice that allows students to securely create a GitHub repository in a course organization with a University-linked identity.
As of September 2021, 101 total course instances have used the GitHub Student Repository Creator at Illinois create their GitHub repositories across 28 unique courses (CS 210, 225, 233, 240, 241, 296, 420, 421, 423, 427, 461, 463, 491, and 527; ECE 120, 220, 411, 438; STAT 107, 207, 385, 430, 432, 440, 448, and 528; University High School; and Illinois International).
This tool was developed in collaboration with Mattox Beckman and Dave Mussulman. This tool is now developed and maintained by the Computer Science Instructional Development (CSID) team as a campus-wide service.
Illinois Open Source Queue (2017 - Present): A tool to facilitate and organize office hours in large courses.
As of September 2021, this Illinois Open Source Queue has facilitated 171,676 student questions from 154 unique courses, advising offices, or student groups at The University of Illinois. This has saved thousands of hours of waiting for assistance and streamlined office hours across Illinois.
This tool was developed and programmed with undergraduate students Nathan Walters, Genna Helsel, Jacqueline Osborn, James Wang, and Rittika Adhikari. This tool is now developed and maintained by the Computer Science Instructional Development (CSID) team as a campus-wide service.
